Prayer and liturgy are at the heart of life at Corpus Christi. This can be a quiet moment of reflection at the start of the day, celebrating Mass in church or in the school hall, or leading class-based prayer and liturgy sessions.

Daily Prayers

Our school day is filled with prayer, helping pupils grow closer to God and live out their faith. Prayers at Corpus Christi take place:

  • In the morning

  • Before lunch

  • After lunch

  • At the end of the school day

Celebration of the Word

All children at Corpus Christi have the opportunity to lead class-based prayer and liturgy with the classroom and in phase group gatherings. Children are supported by our Prayer Leaders and Chaplains in preparation for these occasions.

We use the following structure to help children navigate and prepare for these sessions.

Class Assemblies

All children at Corpus Christi have the opportunity to lead a class assembly based on what they have been learning that term. These assemblies always include time for prayer and often connect directly to RE lessons and the Catholic Life and Mission of our school.

In addition to class assemblies, groups of pupils help lead special celebrations—such as our Harvest Festival, where they demonstrate their understanding of the words of Jesus, His teachings, and the wider teachings of the Church. Through these opportunities, children grow in confidence as young disciples, sharing their faith with others.

Chaplaincy Team (Sub Tab)

Year 5 Chaplains

Our children have the opportunity to serve the school as Chaplains. Children in Year 5 write a letter of application for the role. The chaplaincy team play a vital role in the Spiritual life of the school and are supported by the RE Lead, Mrs Cole – they meet together every Wednesday lunchtime.

The role of our Chaplains includes:

  • To help the school to be a community of faith

  • To encourage the pupils to live their faith in daily living

  • To develop good relationships within and beyond the school community

  • To support liturgy, prayer and the spiritual life of the school

  • To continue to develop strong links with the Parish and community

  • To support the school in its Mission Statement

In order to fulfil these roles; our Chaplains will:

  • Help to prepare Acts of Worship and masses

  • Help to lead liturgical services and Celebrations of the Word

  • Suggest ideas for RE resources

  • Regularly visit classrooms – deliver the Wednesday Word
