At Corpus Christi, RE is at the heart of our curriculum because it helps us deepen our relationship with God and understand our mission as followers of Christ. Each lesson begins with a moment of calm, prayer and reflection, giving pupils the chance to open their hearts to God’s presence and prepare to learn, reflect and respond to His word. RE is connected to many areas of our curriculum so that every child can grow in faith, develop a strong sense of Catholic identity and understand how to live out Gospel values in daily life.
Our RE lessons are creative, dynamic and rooted in the Catholic tradition. They follow the objectives set by the Diocese, ensuring pupils gain a strong understanding of Scripture, the Sacraments, the life of Jesus and the teachings of the Church. We also provide opportunities for pupils to explore their faith more deeply, encouraging thoughtful discussion, questioning and personal reflection.
RE is timetabled and taught for 2.5 hours each week (10% of teaching time), showing our commitment to placing faith formation at the centre of school life.
Each class also uses a Prayer & Wonder book to record prayers, reflections, discussions and practical RE activities. These books highlight how pupils are growing in faith and living out the Gospel. They are proudly displayed in classrooms for all visitors to see the rich faith journey taking place within our school.
We use the Lighting the Path curriculum as it enables us to meet the expectations outlines within the Religious Education Directory (RED). It follows the sequence and structure of the Model Curriculum and takes a scripture-first approach.
Throughout the year, children have the opportunity to regularly explore different faiths, religions and world views as part of our RE curriculum, in particular, Judaism, Islam and Hinduism.
